Age verification

A short page explaining the 18+ gate on darlink-ai.io, how it works technically, why it exists in this shape, and what it does and does not do for parents, educators and readers in jurisdictions with stricter verification law.

How the gate works

First visit to any page on darlink-ai.io that carries editorial content shows a full-screen adult acknowledgement. You confirm you are 18 or over (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, whichever is higher). There is no ID upload, no biometric check, no third-party verification service. That is a deliberate limit of the mechanism: self-certification places responsibility with the reader.

After the acknowledgement, a lightweight boolean flag (dl_age_ok) is written to browser localStorage. Return visits from the same browser skip the gate. Clearing site data, switching browsers, or opening a private window resets the flag and shows the acknowledgement again on next visit.

Two age controls readers commonly confuse

Two separate age controls exist when researching DarLink AI, and the difference is worth naming clearly.

  1. The gate on darlink-ai.io. Applies to reading editorial coverage on this site. Self-certification, browser-side flag, no verification of any kind. This page is about that gate.
  2. DarLink AI's own 18+ policy. Applies to the platform itself at darlink.ai. DarLink's terms state the service is not intended for anyone under 18. Signup requires age confirmation on the platform side. There is no teen-tuned model and no parental oversight feature: DarLink is an adults-only product by design, not a general audience app with teen controls layered on.

The framing DarLink AI itself uses is described on the main DarLink AI page. This page covers only the site-side gate.

Why this site is 18+

Editorial coverage on the main page discusses adult use of an AI companion platform: pricing decisions for adult roleplay, NSFW toggle behaviour on paid tiers, V5 video generation with adult output, and comparison platforms that are more permissive than DarLink. That framing is not aimed at readers under 18. Gating at 18+ is a policy choice consistent with what the coverage actually discusses.

Regional variation

Where the local age of majority is above 18, the higher threshold applies. Where local rules require additional verification for adult-focused sites (as some jurisdictions have introduced under recent adult-content verification laws), those rules apply to you as a reader independently of what this site does technically. darlink-ai.io does not implement those verification frameworks, and the self-certification gate is the only control on the site side. Data handling for the gate is documented on the privacy policy.

Parents and educators

This site is not suitable for readers under 18. Parents and educators looking for material to inform a conversation about AI companion apps with a younger reader should use resources scoped for that purpose. Common Sense Media's teen-focused work on AI companions is a reasonable starting point. If a household needs to enforce the age gate at network level, a standard content filter with a category block on adult sites is more reliable than any self-certification any editorial site could implement.

DarLink AI itself does not offer a teen mode or parental oversight feature. This is different from Character.AI, which does run a teen-tuned model with tighter filters. If under-18 access is a concern in a household, DarLink AI should be treated as any other adult platform.

Data implications of the gate

The gate flag lives in browser localStorage only. No server-side record of your acknowledgement is kept. No personal data is collected during the acknowledgement step. Full data handling for the site sits on the privacy policy. The federal record-keeping position for a third-party editorial site of this shape is on the 2257 statement.

Reporting concerns

If you believe editorial content on darlink-ai.io includes material that could be read as aimed at minors, or that any page frames adult topics in a way that is inappropriate, that is a valid concern. Route it to the editor via LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/melissablake1. Substantive reports are actioned inside the correction window described on the editorial policy page.
