Senior Editor · AI Companion Platforms · Amsterdam

Editor of the DarLink AI coverage on this site. My work is in reading the AI companion category closely enough that a first-time reader can tell what a product does, what it costs, and where it falls short, without needing to compare six review pages side by side.

Background

Editorial writing on consumer AI since 2022, the year the AI companion category started separating from general-purpose chatbots. Before that: eight years covering consumer software, SaaS subscriptions, and how digital products behave once real users are in the room. That earlier work is where the current writing style comes from: less about specs, more about which claims in a product's marketing survive a week of daily use.

The beat

AI companion platforms, character-chat products, and the adjacent adult AI tools. DarLink AI is the focus of this site. Wider category reading covers Candy AI, FantasyGF, CrushOn AI, Character.AI, Replika, Janitor AI, Talkie, Kindroid and PolyBuzz. Comparisons on the main DarLink AI page draw on that wider window rather than a DarLink-only view.

How I read a product

Category coverage on this site is source-led. Rather than write a review off a single sign-up session, I read the platform's own materials, then read what independent reviewers report after time with the product, then read what paying users describe on Trustpilot and category subreddits. Where those diverge is usually where the interesting story is: the marketing shows one thing, the review sites paraphrase it, and the users on Trustpilot describe something else. The DarLink AI Living Memory framing is a clean example.

Claims about pricing, plan gating, or NSFW behaviour are checked against the current build of darlink.ai before publication, not carried forward from older coverage. Where a claim rests on published research (loneliness effects, adolescent risk, engagement patterns), the source is cited with sample size and publication venue. The full sourcing method is documented on the methodology page.

What does not go into published copy

No fabricated first-person testing. If a specific measurement (a response time in seconds, a coin balance after 30 minutes of use, a screenshot of a specific error) has not been documented in a linked source, it does not go on the page as observed data. That constraint keeps the coverage honest even when it is less colourful than it could be.

No sponsored coverage. No advance sight for platforms of critical material about themselves. No coverage of a product where I hold a financial interest beyond the affiliate arrangement documented on the editorial policy page. If any of that changes, the change goes on the editorial policy page first.

Corrections

Confirmed factual corrections take precedence over defending the original wording. The channel is LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/melissablake1. Send the claim, the correction, and a source. Verified corrections trigger a page edit, an entry on the correction log at the editorial policy page, and a schema dateModified bump. Turnaround target is seven working days.

Location

Amsterdam-based. Time-of-day observations on the main DarLink AI page anchor to Central European Time by default. Where a timing claim would land differently for readers in other time zones, it is expressed in UTC. Reading and correspondence happen between roughly 09:00 and 18:00 CET on weekdays.
